With incredible views of Mt Aspiring the chalet offers luxury accommodation and an incredible base for alpine adventures.

The Mt Aspiring Chalet is located on the boundary of the Mt Aspiring National park. With incredible views of Mt Aspiring the chalet offers luxury accommodation and an incredible base for alpine adventures.

You can tailor your own Mt Aspiring Chalet experience. You can choose a relaxing trip enjoying the incredible mountain scenery from the balcony of the chalet, or an action packed adventure with alpine hiking or climbing a mountain.

To get to the Mt Aspiring Chalet we take a scenic helicopter flight from the Matukituki Valley located near the Mt Aspiring National Park in Wanaka. The chalet and it’s surrounding alpine setting can be enjoyed year round by friends, families and small groups. Over the summer season the chalet is a perfect base for alpine hiking, the area is covered by tussock grass, wild flowers, and small alpine lakes, and offers a variety of terrain and options from short walks through to longer more challenging adventures.

Over the winter season the area is covered in snow making for an incredible winter playground suitable for snow shoeing and ski touring or perhaps just enjoying being based in a remote snowy mountain location.

The chalet has two double bedrooms and a spacious loft and provides comfortable accommodation for up to six guests, and a bunk room for two staff. The chalet is relaxed yet luxurious with power, a hot shower and large windows with incredible views of Mount Aspiring with its tumbling glaciers.

TRIP NOTES

Experience required

No previous experience required. For the more adventurous hikes you need to be comfortable travelling through untracked areas and over uneven terrain. We can tailor make the trip to your experience and preferences.

Clothing & equipment

Hiking & climbing in the New Zealand mountains requires that you have high quality equipment and clothing due to the extremes of weather we experience. Please ensure you look carefully at our equipment checklist. At the start of the trip your guide will go through your equipment and make sure that you have everything that you need for the trip. Please organise to have your extra equipment stored at your accomodation for the duration of the trip.

It is important that you keep as close as possible to the equipment checklist. The focus is on ensuring that you have the equipment you need, but also on keeping your pack as light as possible. If your guide is meeting you at your accomodation for the start of the trip it would be helpful if you have all your equipment and clothing organised and laid out in a logical fashion so they can check that everyone has the right equipment and clothing for the trip.

Hiking Season

Over the summer season the chalet is a perfect base for alpine hiking, the area is covered by tussock grass, wild flowers, and small alpine lakes, and offers a variety of terrain and options from short walks through to longer more challenging adventures.

Over the winter season the area is covered in snow making for an incredible winter playground suitable for snow shoeing and ski ski touring or perhaps just enjoying being based in a remote snowy mountain location.

Accomodation during the trip

With two double bedrooms and a spacious loft, the chalet provides comfortable accommodation for up to six guests, and a bunkroom for two staff. Relaxed yet luxurious, the Chalet has power, a hot shower and large windows framing astounding views of Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring with its tumbling glaciers.

Accomodation in Queenstown  before or after the trip is not included in trip costs. To organise accomodation before and after the course we recommend www.booking.com here you will find a wide range of accomodation depending on your preferred style and budget.

Guide to participant ratios

The maximum guide to participant ratio that we ski guide in glaciated at is 1 guide to 4 participants. In glaciated terrain groups larger than 4 participants require an extra guide. In non glaciated terrain we can run trips with 6 participants to 1 guide.

Luxury heli hiking experience

Mike from Queenstown Mountain Guides arranged a fabulous back-country hiking & climbing trip for myself and my two children. He did a great job of picking a route that was adventurous and challenging but still suitable for a family. He was super professional to deal with on all aspects of the trip. As a guide, he is the real deal: extremely experienced, calm and professional, and very pleasant company.
