REMARKABLES TOWER CLIMB
An adventurous climb to the summit of Remarkables Tower with incredible exposure & views from the summit.
The Remarkable’s Tower Climb takes you to the summit of the Remarkables Tower. From the summit you will have mind blowing views as you look 2000m down the west face of the Remarkables. On a clear day it is possible to get views of Mt Aspiring, Mt Cook, and the Fiordland mountains.
The Remarkable’s Tower Climb is a great first mountaineering experience. This trip is easier than a full day of mountaineering and climbing but harder and more adventurous than hiking or trekking on a trail. Your guide will use a rope to protect you on the very upper part of the scramble to the summit.
This is an exciting and rewarding day of mixed hiking terrain moving across rocks and scree with some exposed climbing terrain near the summit. You will need a good level of fitness and be confident at moving on uneven terrain where no trail exists.
In the summer season this is a scramble up a ridge-line across rock and scree. In the winter season the Remarkables are covered in snow and ice axe, crampons, and snow shoes can be required for the climb. In the winter this is a great trip to learn some mountaineering skills.
The Remarkables area is well known for it’s mirror flat glacial tarns, golden tussock hills, schist outcrops and bluffs, streams and waterfalls, unique flora and fauna, and spectacular views over Lake Wakatipu. Single and Double Cone the highest mountains in the Remarkables range dominate the landscape towering above the glacial valley.
The birds found in the alpine environment of the Remarkable’s and the Doolan’s include New Zealand falcon and the Kea, the worlds only alpine parrot, which can be seen year round. The prominent vegetation is snow tussock but the area also includes a wide variety of other special plant species including small alpine flowers that cover the Remarkables area in the spring and summer seasons.
